Normally, when I send out invitations for tastings featured in this Wednesday Night Wine series, I have no trouble filling the seats with ten to fifteen enthusiastic consumers who “weigh in” with their opinions as we taste through bottles aligned with that week’s theme.
This time, when the theme was wine from the state of Virginia, the response went far beyond “no trouble filling the seats.” Tasters were eager to attend, for a number of reasons. Some were actually from Virginia and were already avid, loyal fans of its wines. Some were born in Virginia and had never tasted a single wine from anywhere in the state. Others remembered our tasting last year of this same theme, and wanted to compare notes to this year’s winners from the 2017 Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, which will be honored at a gala celebration next week.
